PostHog pricing for startups: every tier and your monthly total
Updated November 5, 2026 · Prices read November 5, 2026 from posthog.com/pricing · 22 products and add-ons
By Ryan Doyle, founder of UserProof, a session replay tool. Rebuilt every morning from PostHog’s own price list.
For startups working out what PostHog will cost: PostHog costs $0 a month until you pass its free lines. Every month the first 1,000,000 analytics events, 5,000 session recordings, 1,000,000 feature flag requests, 100,000 exceptions and 1,500 survey responses are free, and there are no seat fees. Above those lines you pay per unit, and the unit price falls as volume grows.
At 10,000 monthly users that comes to $102.50 a month, using PostHog’s own 87 events per user and our assumption of 3 recordings per user. Session replay is the whole bill at that size: 870,000 events are still free. An eligible startup can also apply for $50,000 in credits.
We read PostHog’s price list every morning. Not one of its 93 dollar amounts has moved in 13 reads since October 23, 2026.

Replay alone at this volume: PostHog $102.50, UserProof Pro $29 (up to 50,000 recorded visits). UserProof has no analytics, flags or surveys.
Anonymous-event prices. PostHog lists identified events as an add-on at $0.000198 per event, falling to $0.000001, and says anonymous events can be up to 4x cheaper, so an app of logged-in users should expect a higher analytics line than this. PostHog also bills mobile recordings on their own meter.
What a startup pays at four sizes
This table turns PostHog’s usage guide into dollars. It uses the 87 events per monthly user that PostHog measured on its own product, read November 5, 2026. Its other examples run from 8 to 583, so yours may differ. The 3 recordings per user is our assumption; PostHog says to multiply monthly users by your own sessions per user.
Analytics and replay only, no platform package, by our arithmetic from the tiers read November 5, 2026. The Analytics column is anonymous events.| Monthly users | Events | Recordings | Analytics | Replay | Total, anonymous events | Total if users log in |
|---|
| 1,000 | 87,000 | 3,000 | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
|---|
| 10,000 | 870,000 | 30,000 | $0 | $102.50 | $102.50 | $102.50 |
|---|
| 50,000 | 4,350,000 | 150,000 | $130.61 | $372.50 | $503.11 | $734.29 to $864.90 |
|---|
| 100,000 | 8,700,000 | 300,000 | $279.81 | $627.50 | $907.31 | $1,292.49 to $1,572.30 |
|---|
The last column counts every event as identified, which is what a logged-in app sends. The high end adds the identified-event tier to the event tier, which equals the $0.000248 in PostHog’s own identified price table. The low end bills the identified-event tier alone, because PostHog’s docs say it is “not charging you for both”. We print both because the two pages read differently.
Replay is the meter you hit first. At these rates the 5,000 free recordings run out at about 1,666 monthly users, and the 1,000,000 free events last to about 11,494. If your bill needs to stay at $0, PostHog’s recording settings matter more than your event count.
Startup credits can take these bills to $0. $50,000 in free credits for 12 months. Eligible if less than 2 years old and less than $5M raised. The largest bill above, $1,572.30 a month, is about $18,868 a year, inside that credit. PostHog’s startups page, read November 5, 2026, adds that your account must use a company email domain and have signed up since January 1, 2023, credits come once per founder and organization, and PostHog issues them at its discretion.

How to keep a PostHog bill down
- Set a billing limit on most products. Past the limit you are not charged, but additional events are permanently dropped and feature flags return a default quota-limited response, so check what your app does with that response first (PostHog on billing limits).
- Record fewer sessions. Sampling, a minimum duration and triggers all cut the recording count.
- Send anonymous events where you can, such as on marketing pages (PostHog on anonymous events).
- Use a server SDK that supports ETags for local flag evaluation. A poll that finds no change is free; older SDKs pay 10 requests for every poll, about 864,000 requests a month per server.
Has PostHog changed its prices lately?
Not since October 23, 2026. UserProof has read PostHog’s pricing page every morning from that date, and on all 13 reads through November 4, 2026 the set of 93 dollar amounts on it stayed the same.

When UserProof is the cheaper answer
PostHog sells analytics, flags, surveys, error tracking and more on one bill, and if you use them it is hard to beat. UserProof does one job: it records real visits and hands Claude Code, Codex or Cursor the one fix with the file and line. It has no analytics dashboard, flags or surveys. At 50,000 recordings a month PostHog’s replay line alone is $172.50; UserProof Pro is $29 a month for 50,000 recorded visits. An eligible startup on credits pays PostHog nothing for 12 months, up to the credit; after that the comparison above applies. Read the PostHog alternatives, PostHog MCP vs UserProof or LogRocket vs PostHog, or price the replay tools side by side in the session replay cost calculator.
Method
- A collector reads PostHog’s pricing page and its markdown twin every morning with plain HTTP, under robots.txt, and parses every tier table. If the page stops parsing, yesterday’s prices stay and the date at the top stays with them.
- Totals are our arithmetic: each unit is billed at the price of the tier it falls in, so only the units above a line pay that line’s price. The same rule gives $324.40 for 10 million anonymous events, which matches the $324 in PostHog’s own example.
- Prices are in US dollars and exclude taxes.

FAQ
Is PostHog free?
Yes, up to its free lines. The Free plan needs no credit card and covers 1 project with 1 year of data retention; past a free line, events are dropped. The paid plan has a $0 base price and keeps the same free lines every month, so a small app can run on it for $0.
How much does PostHog cost per month?
$0 under the free lines. By our arithmetic from the published tiers, 10,000 monthly users cost about $102.50 and 100,000 monthly users cost about $907.31 for anonymous analytics and replay, at 87 events and 3 recordings per user. If every user logs in, 100,000 users cost $1,292.49 to $1,572.30.
Does PostHog charge per seat?
No. PostHog’s pricing page says there are no per-seat charges, so your whole team can use it.
How much do PostHog feature flags cost?
The first 1,000,000 requests a month are free, then $0.0001 per request, falling to $0.00001 above 50,000,000. Experiments bill on the same meter.
Is PostHog AI free?
Up to 500 credits a month, then $0.01 per credit.
Can I self-host PostHog for free?
Yes. PostHog offers a free Docker Compose deployment under an MIT license, but it calls self-hosted deployments officially unsupported, and you pay for and run the servers.
Is there a PostHog discount for startups?
$50,000 in free credits for 12 months. Eligible if less than 2 years old and less than $5M raised.
Is this page independent?
No. UserProof publishes it and sells a session replay tool. Each price table names PostHog’s pricing page and the date we read it, so you can check it.
